RA for your Friday

Hello all, and happy Friday from the New York Library Association conference in beautiful Saratoga Springs! It’s the first Friday of a brand new month, so let’s get cracking with all that readers advisory goodness.

First things first! We’ve got three new Book Club in a Bag titles coming next month: Hell of a Book, by Jason Mott, Madhouse at the End of the Earth, by Julian Sancton, and The Thursday Murder Club, by Richard Osman. I’ll post on our social when they’ve been added to the catalog and are ready to borrow, but you heard it here first – look for these titles the first week of December.

Is it possible we’re already at the place where we’re talking about the end of year lists? You bet we are, and Publishers Weekly is leading off with their Best Books 2022 list. Here’s the RA for All blog on how this (along with NPR’s Books We Love) is one of the best resources out there:

“Nowhere will you find a resource that puts this many “sure bet” options in front of you so easily. There are literally hundreds of titles here, at your fingertips, both old and new, that you can confidently suggest to readers immediately. And so many readers. Readers who read across all age levels [down to infants] and in just about every genre…”

But let’s back up a bit. After all, we wouldn’t want to skip past Nonfiction November, would we? Follow along on the NCLS Instagram page as we share a new nonfiction pick everyday, based on prompts from the What’s Nonfiction blog.

In awards news, the winners of the Kirkus Prize have been announced.

And be sure to join us online for the last Friday Reads discussion of the year on December 2 at 3pm. To close out the year, we’ll be talking about reading resolutions and holiday favorites, along with our usual chat about books and authors we (and patrons) are excited about.
