Board Buzz – March

As a library trustee, it’s important for you to keep up with library updates, but we want to make sure you get it in a format that’s quick to read and easy to digest. Let’s get to it!

2023 Trustee Handbook

The 2023 Edition of the Handbook for Library Trustees is now available online! You can find the searchable PDF on the NCLS Trustee Guide right here.

Annual Reports

Annual Reports were due on February 27th. While trustees review and provide feedback on their Annual Reports in February, some of you will be officially accepting it at your March meeting. NCLS is currently reviewing reports and after, the Division of Library Development will also review your report for any corrections and needed clarification.

Report to the Community

Boast your library usage numbers and statistics in your library’s Report to the Community! In addition to being a NYS Minimum Standard, the Report to the Community is a great piece of advocacy that can pull data from your library’s Annual Report. Learn more with Matt Corey on March 19 during Creating an Effective Report to the Community!

Upcoming Trustee Trainings

We’ve got some good continuing education opportunities coming up – Be an Employer of Choice on March 7 and Money Talks: Six Mini-Sessions on Library Finances on June 11. And be sure to save the date for the Annual NCLS Cookout on May 29!

And that’s this month’s Board Buzz! If there’s someone on your board who’s not receiving NCLS emails, please have your library director complete a Trustee Contact Form so that we can make sure they’re getting the information they need.
