Over 120 member library staff and trustees attended the NCLS Annual Meeting on September 14, 2023. NCLS staff welcomed attendees with highlights from the past year and presented awards. The Library Advocacy Award went to Meghan Harney (LOW), the Sustainable Libraries Award was presented to the Norwood Public Library, and Director of the Year went to Christina Bamberg (CAR).
New York State Librarian Lauren Moore delivered our morning keynote address, sharing a collaborative vision for libraries, which is based on a promise to advance access, belonging, and the social well-being of the communities we serve.
During breaks, meeting attendees had the opportunity to connect with potential partners – WPBS, Pivot Employee Assistance Services, Usherwood Office Technology, Cornell Cooperative Extension of Jefferson County, The Little Bookstore in Clayton, and local artist Alesiafy.
After lunch, we launched right into our trustee workshop, True North Trivia: Essential Knowledge for Trustees, where attorney Stephanie Adams covered topics such as library ethics, policies, board meetings, governance, and NYS and federal laws pertaining to libraries.
The NCLS Annual Meeting is a wonderful opportunity to connect with your local library community, as well as enjoy a fun learning experience. Stay tuned for details about next year’s event!
