I made my first rhubarb pie of the season yesterday, which means we’re right smack up against summer! The bookish internet agrees – we’ve got picks from Entertainment Weekly, Vulture, the LA Times, and Goodreads.
And I know summer is often branded as the time for escapist novels, but these lists also include nonfiction, which we should include in our recommendations and displays, too. Here’s Becky Spratford from the RA for All blog with fiction-to-nonfiction readalikes from Book Riot and why we should remember our entire collection when creating displays or doing face-to-face RA:
“Not only are you helping readers to find books they will enjoy but could never have found without your help, but also, you are helping some forgotten titles to circulate. With the nonfiction stacks containing so many more books, often some great nonfiction titles get lost in the stacks… Another positive, when we move our patrons across our entire collection to find items for their leisure needs, we are literally reminding them of everything the library has to offer.”
The Library Reads and Indie Next lists for June are here! Go ahead and print ’em out for yer corkboard.
In other June news, new Book Club in a Bag titles are coming soon! Look for these additions* early next month:
Trust, by Hernan Diaz
A Little Devil in America, by Haniq Abdurraquib
Great Circle, by Maggie Shipstead
*Assuming we can even get 12 copies of Trust, which won the Pulitzer Prize right after we placed the order. Queen of Timing!
In awards news, the Nebulas have been announced!
Finally, #FridayReads: Still knee-deep in I Have Some Questions for You (#slowreader), but I’ve been eyeballing my paperback book sale copy of Beth O’Leary’s The Road Trip as a light and lovely follow-up. Happy reading!
