Yep, I missed another Friday. In my defense, I was off learning (and teaching*) stuff at NYLA, but I’m back now, and it’s time to talk books and media. Let’s go!
A new month calls for new lists, and we’ve got November picks from Amazon, Barnes & Noble, Goodreads, People, Time, Town & Country, the LA Times, and Shondaland. For all you genre fans, we’ve got fantasy from Paste, sci-fi and fantasy from Lit Hub, mysteries & thrillers from Criminal Element, horror from the Escapist, and romance from Book Riot.
Curious about the library use of Gen Z and Millennials? ALA has a report for that. (Spoiler: They ARE using libraries. How often? For what? Well, you’ll just have to read the report…) Hat tip to Becky Spratford for putting this on our radar.
Speaking of Gen Z, if you’re not on TikTok but are curious about what’s trending there, PopSugar has rounded up 34 BookTok Books to Read ASAP.
Look for a display idea? November is Native American Heritage Month and we’ve got lists from Barnes & Noble and CrimeReads to get you started. It’s also Nonfiction November, so be sure to remember to get your best true tales front and center!
Just a heads up that we’ll have three new Book Club in a Bag titles next month: The Monsters We Defy, Destiny of the Republic, and Zorrie. I’ll be doing a social media post when they’re live – please share!
Finally, #MondayReads: I picked up a respectable haul from the Friends Book Shop at the Saratoga Springs Public Library, and made a start last night with Take Good Care of the Garden and the Dogs. In my earbuds is Legends & Lattes, and I just finished Season 1 of Ted Lasso, which was absolutely worth waiting for. Happy reading/listening/viewing!
*What was I teaching at NYLA, you ask? Why, weeding for small and rural libraries, of course! Just a reminder that if you’re looking for one-on-one weeding assistance, you can always reach out and schedule a visit with me.
